PCB Copy Board and Paste Mask File Export

Release Date:Sep 08, 2026

PCB copy board paste mask file export is a special data production process for SMT surface mount assembly, and the paste mask file (stencil layer file) is the core data for manufacturing SMT steel meshes. Different from the solder mask layer used for PCB surface protection, the paste mask layer is specially used to define the tin scraping opening position and size of the SMT steel mesh, which directly determines the tin volume, tin thickness and welding quality of SMD component pads. Accurate paste mask file export is the key to ensure the welding consistency and assembly yield of cloned PCB surface mount components, which is widely used in the mass production of various high-precision SMT patch PCBs.

The paste mask file generation is oriented to SMT assembly process requirements. Technicians conduct in-depth analysis on the pad characteristics of all surface-mount components on the original PCB, including resistor and capacitor pads, chip IC pads, diode and triode pads, and connector SMD pads. According to the actual welding tin demand of different components, the opening size and shape of each pad are accurately defined. For small-size passive components such as 0402 and 0603 resistors and capacitors, the opening size is appropriately optimized according to the original board welding effect to avoid tin deficiency or excessive tin; for high-precision components such as BGA and QFN with dense pins, the opening proportion and spacing of each pin pad are finely adjusted to ensure uniform tin filling and prevent virtual welding and tin bridging.

In the professional editing and optimization stage, the paste mask layer data is processed in strict accordance with SMT steel mesh production standards. The opening shape of the paste mask is consistent with the pad shape of the original PCB, and adaptive optimization is carried out for special pads such as oval pads, rectangular pads and irregular pads. For pads with high welding heat dissipation requirements and high current demand, the opening area is appropriately expanded to increase the tin coating amount and improve the welding firmness and heat conduction performance. For adjacent pads with extremely small spacing, anti-bridging optimization is carried out by reducing the local opening width to ensure that the tin slurry does not cross the boundary during tin scraping, which effectively avoids short circuit defects in SMT assembly.

Finally, data verification and standard format export are completed. The paste mask file is superimposed and matched with the PCB pad layer one by one to ensure that all opening positions are accurately aligned with the component pads, without position offset, missing opening or wrong opening. The overall process feasibility is detected to ensure that the file data meets the production process standards of SMT steel mesh manufacturers. The exported standard Gerber paste mask file can be directly used for steel mesh etching and laser cutting production. The accurate paste mask data ensures that the SMT tin coating effect, component welding quality and assembly consistency of the cloned PCB are completely consistent with the original sample board, greatly improving the assembly yield and product stability of mass-produced products.
